the "07-08 Report" button on the left. It has
the awards and records. Please

2008-2009 GIRL’S SOCCER INFORMATION AND POLICIES
GENERAL INFORMATION
Please contact Coach Knight at 817-253-6772 if you have questions about girl’s soccer at Martin High School!
Soccer Class: The class is fourth period in the fall for all soccer girls. Freshmen sign up for JV soccer unless they are in another athletic class that starts before soccer season. JVA and Varsity teams are double blocked (last class of the day) in the spring semester – periods 4 and 8. JVB is single blocked in fourth period all year. You must be in the soccer class to play on the teams unless you are enrolled in another athletic class or an academic class only offered at the same time as the soccer class. Parents need to notify the coaches if one of these situations applies.
Tryouts: Tryouts take place for all players in the class period starting on the first A day until teams are chosen at the end of the first week in December. After school tryouts/practices begin the first day back after the Thanksgiving holiday. There are NO workouts held outside the school day until then. Those not in class will go through tryouts when after school workouts begin from December 1-8.
It is possible to participate in many activities and other sports. Good communication between players, parents, sponsors and coaches will be important for scheduling practices and events.
FORMS: Check www.aisd.net or the UIL website www.uil.utexas.edu for most of the forms necessary to participate in athletics. They are listed as physical evaluation forms. We need those turned in by the second day of school. Inexpensive physicals are generally held on the Martin campus in the spring or summer. You will be notified by phone or email if contact information is provided or available. Martin Girls Soccer Policies can be found at www.martinladywarriors.com along with other information about the program including the history.
LIST OF Forms: a completed and NOTARIZED physical, Acknowledgement of Rules, Steroid Agreement, Player Information and Agreement Forms, Media Release for website Varsity ONLY for spring semester: Transportation Waiver (notarized and liability insurance copy provided), AISD Student Volunteer Form
Teams: There are three teams chosen based mainly on skill level, maturity, attitude, academics and behavior – JVB and JVA (consists of 9-11 graders only) and Varsity (may be comprised of 9-12 grades). Season: Practices resume December 30th for the varsity. JVA and JVB resume the 31st or Jan 1 week and will be announced by the coaches of the teams. Scrimmages are the first Saturday after school starts in January and the following Tuesday. Games begin that weekend with tournaments the first three weekends in January after school resumes. District games start the last week in January ending in mid March before spring break. The varsity district record determines playoffs. The varsity will have practices (scheduled by the coach with input from the players) during spring break since playoffs begin after spring break. JVA players may be added to the varsity team for playoffs at the coach’s discretion.
Club Soccer/Select Soccer/ODP Soccer : There will be some conflicts with these games or tournaments from August to December. We expect the girls to be at the high school practices and games if there are conflicts with club tournaments or games during the high school season. Please contact the coach to see what might be worked out.
Making the Team: There are approximately 25 players per team on the average. Players do NOT have to play club, select or ODP soccer, but that experience helps and usually those players with the most skill play at the highest competitive levels available to them. Those are the ones who generally make the team, start and get the most playing time. Players do need to have some playing experience and know the game to sign up for the class because we have as many as 85-115 girls trying out each year.
Get experience at the highest competitive level on good teams along with a variety of soccer experience at camps or with personal trainers. Stay fit all year.
What we’re looking for in players: Someone with a GREAT attitude, good soccer skills, good academics, good behavior, athletic ability, a student of the game, someone who wants to learn more about the game, someone who is COACHABLE, someone who works well with teammates and coaches, players who are willing to work hard and those willing to practice good nutrition!
We train hard in all kinds of weather conditions. It is hot when we start in August and cold during the season. We practice inside if we can’t go outside because of the weather.
Come see some of the games at each level to get an idea of how or where you might fit in with the Martin Lady Warrior Soccer players!
